The FAQ

of The Qurban Services & Akad (Contract)

What is Qurban?

Qurban is the ritual of slaughtering livestock, i.e. goats, cows and camels, which is carried out on the days of Tashrik (10 – 13 Zulhijjah) with the aim of drawing closer to Allah SWT

Types of Qurban?

There are several types of Qurban:

  1. Qurban Ta’yin: Qurban intended for certain livestock.
  2. Qurban on the basis of the bequest left by the deceased.
  3. Qurban for having vowed (Nazar) to perform it. This type you have to do two slaughters, namely for the Qurban itself and for the vow (Nazar) that has been made. This is because both are different acts of worship and law.
Conditions for Performing Qurban?

Must be Muslim with these conditions:

  • Puberty
  • Reasonable

  • Freedom, i.e. not a slave.

And the Animal for Qurban must be:

  • Farm animals are in good condition and have no defects.
  •  Slaughtered at a time that has been set according to Shariah
  • Not bound by the rights of others such as buying livestock with the proceeds of leases, loans and so on.
What is the Law of Qurban?

The majority of scholars say that it is Sunat Muakkad (required circumcision), and some others such as the School of Abu Hanifah and one of Imam Ahmad’s narrations say that it is obligatory.

It is based on the verse of al-Quran surah al-Kauthar, verse 2: “Then pray for your Lord and perform the Sacrifice”.

This verse was revealed in the form of instructions and orders.

When the Qurban will be performed?

It starts from the end of Eid al-Adha prayer (10th of Zulhijjah) until sunset on the 13th day of Zulhijjah.

The total number of days required to carry out the sacrifice is 4 days.

Is it allowed to do Qurban using 1 animal for 1 family?

Yes, as long as they live in the same house/roof. Also allowed if under the same “nafkah”.

Is it permissible to do Qurban on behalf of others?

It is possible, by informing him or her in advance for the person intending the Qurban so that it is more perfect and can comply with the prohibitions for the person intending and performing the Qurban.

Can Qurban and Aqiqah be combined?

Can’t because both are different acts of worship and different purposes.

Not cutting nails and hair from 1 Zulhijjah until the Qurban is done.
